Intro to Drift

Learn to initiate, catch, balance, and end controlled oversteer on purpose.

01Course description

The objective. The work. The standard.

Intro to Drift establishes the rear-wheel-drive foundation in a controlled, low-complexity environment. Students learn how weight transfer, throttle, steering, and rear-wheel speed interact as the rear tires move beyond their maximum lateral grip.

Exercises progress from recognizing the onset of oversteer to initiating, catching, balancing, and deliberately ending a slide. Smoke and angle are consequences—not measures of control. The standard is repeatable control without panic corrections or luck.

Primary development areas
  • RWD dynamics and rear-axle behavior
  • Vehicle orientation and closed-course safety procedures
  • Driving position and control coordination
  • Vision and target focus
  • Weight transfer and traction-limit recognition
  • Progressive throttle modulation
  • Approved low-speed initiation fundamentals
  • Oversteer recognition
  • Countersteer timing
  • Steady-state circle control
  • Spin avoidance and recovery procedures
  • Deliberate slide termination and repeatability
